The Thüringische Sommerakademie is based in Böhlen, a small village overlooking the Thuringian Forest. Situated in the buildings of a former factory yard in the beautiful countryside between Weimar and Coburg.
The Academy was founded in 1992 and is now a well-known venue for workshops in arts, literature/poetry, theatre, dance and music. We offer studios and workshops for artists and people of all kind.
We also offer a wide range of creative courses (workshops in music, writing, painting, drawing, printing. . .).
The Academy is more than a middle-of-nowhere-idyll. Rather, it is a perfect docking station for creative minds. With its silence and loads of space it is a perfect place to be, work, make…:
- 10 studios with more than 600 m² working space (each between 15 and 140m²)
- shared areas with fire place, bar, small library
- 150m² roofed peripharals
- rehearsal rooms with piano / grand piano
- printing press
- kitchen (2) for self-catering / cooking für groups
- holiday homes
All surrounded by nature of the Thuringian Forrest and never loose from locations that enable ones retreat. Apart from workshops it is possible to rent our workrooms and spend some time on free working.
Scholarships and reduced prices are possible.
A special and well-established project is the International Chamber Music Week. Students and young ensembles from all over the world come together to work with international well-known soloists and chamber musicians to create wonderful music in an inspiring atmosphere of concentration. Public rehearsals and concerts are unforgotten highlights in every summer.
Böhlen is reachable in about 4–5 hours by car from Frankfurt, Munich or Berlin. The place is within easy reach by train (next station: Meuselbach-Schwarzmühle).
